The Shank Door company is happily celebrating 60 years of service within the community. With a variety of doors available to both residential and commercial clients, Shank Door has grown to be the largest garage door installer across the region.

The success of this local business began in Harrisonburg, Virginia in the 1950s by Ralph Shank when he started selling and installing garage doors. With hard work, discipline, and the heart of a true entrepreneur, Ralph moved to Baltimore for a short time and then moved to Myerstown in 1964. He began selling doors out of his basement and as his reputation for excellent service, superior labor, and remarkable products spread throughout the community, the business continued to prosper.
The current location of Shank Door at Myerstown was originally a farm belonging to Ralph’s brother, Aaron Shank. Ira Mast, the company’s first associate, was hired in 1971. In 1973, the farm officially became the established site for the business. Ralph decided to sell the business to Ira in 1976. He remained in some capacity following the transition. They also have a team working out of their Lancaster warehouse location.

Ira placed high importance on thoroughness and continued growing the company competently and yielding growth. Despite a fire in 1982 when the building burned, Ira persevered, and Shank Door rebounded, and several new additions were built. The success of Shank Door is due to God-given opportunities, loyal contractors, and customers.

While styles and times have certainly changed from Ralph’s initial interest in doors, the market for quality, durability, and function has not. Employing approximately 80 people, the Shank Door companies maintain the reputation of quality and hard work set forth by Ralph. This commitment has earned them excellent reviews on Google and Angie’s List, as well as countless customer referrals.
